The US Navy has awarded a contract to BAE Systems to support weapons systems on submarines.

The five-year contract will see BAE provide systems engineering and support services to the Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) office, who oversee the Strategic Weapons System and Attack Weapons System on board current US Ohio and UK Vanguard class submarines, as well as future submarines..

DeEtte Gray, president of BAE Systems’ Intelligence & Security sector, said: “We provide expertise to the Navy to maintain, optimise, and deploy seaborne weapons systems that serve as a strategic deterrent against major threats to the security of our nation and its allies.”

The contract covers weapon support plus systems integration as well as equipment testing, with IT support, administration and documentation services and assistance with training programmes. It also allows BAE to offer nuclear and conventional weapons safety support.

BAE Systems delivers a broad range of solutions and services including intelligence analysis, cyber operations, IT, systems development, systems integration, and operations and maintenance to enable militaries and governments to recognise, manage, and defeat threats.
