Frankenburg Technologies has announced the successful closure of a €30 million Series A funding round, led by Plural with participation from SmartCap, aimed at establishing Europe’s next-generation missile manufacturing capacity.

This latest investment brings the company’s total funding to €40 million and marks a significant milestone in the effort to address the acute air-defence bottlenecks currently facing European and allied nations. The company’s strategic focus is the development of affordable, mass-manufacturable missile systems designed for rapid regeneration, providing a sustainable economic model for air defence in an environment where low-cost aerial threats are increasingly prevalent.

For businesses within the UK defence supply chain, the expansion of Frankenburg Missile hubs in the United Kingdom and Germany represents a primary objective of this funding. These hubs will facilitate next-generation missile development, prototyping, and cross-site integration. By establishing a physical footprint in the UK, Frankenburg Technologies aims to engage with local sub-contractors and engineering specialists to support its sovereign manufacturing model. This approach prioritises keeping supply chains short and ensuring that industrial capacity remains close to the point of need, offering tangible opportunities for UK-based firms to integrate into a high-growth missile production ecosystem.

The company’s industrial strategy is centred on containerised, modular manufacturing concepts capable of achieving high-rate output. Frankenburg intends to stand up two mass-production sites within Europe, with a target capacity of 100 missiles per day per site. Such scale is intended to ensure schedule certainty and resilience during periods of high demand. The funding will also be directed toward securing long-lead components and establishing dedicated production capabilities for rocket motors and warheads, providing vertical control over critical energetics and reducing dependency on external suppliers.

The leadership team, led by CEO Kusti Salm, former Permanent Secretary of Estonia’s Ministry of Defence, includes engineers and specialists with extensive experience in major European programmes such as Storm Shadow, Brimstone, SPEAR3, and IRIS-T. This technical expertise has allowed the company to take its first interceptor, the Mark I short-range air-defence missile, from concept to advanced testing in just 13 months. The Mark I is designed for seamless integration with existing sensors and command-and-control architectures, ensuring compatibility with current layered air-defence systems.

As Frankenburg Technologies expands its operations across eight European countries, its focus remains on delivering a full-spectrum missile portfolio. While initial efforts target counter-UAS requirements, future programmes will encompass broader air- and surface-launched precision capabilities. For the UK defence sector, this development signals a shift toward industrialised, scalable manufacturing that seeks to restore mass and sustainability to modern arsenals.
