Figures from BIP Solutions’ Market Update have revealed that the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is still a potential customer for businesses across a wide variety of sectors.

The MOD’s customers include the UK’s Armed forces and national security agencies, buying everything from military fighting vehicles to education services and all kinds of facilities management services.

The defence sector published 46 notices in the week commencing 6 April, a sharp rise of 84% on the previous week’s 25. The 33 distinct notices analysed had a total value of £463.83 million, 40.83% less than the previous week, a difference that can largely be explained by two contracts published in the week commencing 30 March, worth a total of £350 million.

While this week the MOD’s requirements were primarily for specialist military equipment and parts, other opportunities included a coach service, a laser induced breakdown spectrometer (LIBS), and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) security cameras, again illustrating the variety of the MOD’s needs that make it a potential customer for businesses across a wide range of sectors.

The data from the Market Update is taken from BIP Solutions’ Tracker Market Intelligence tool and covers the period 6 April to 10 April.

The report provides stakeholders within the public sector supply chain with an update on key statistics and news relating to public procurement.
