Autonomous Underwater Vehicles firm 2G Robotics acquired by Sonardyne

Autonomous Underwater Vehicle and Remotely Operated Vehicle manufacturer 2G Robotics has been acquired by Sonardyne as part of their growth strategy.

The firm will continue to work independently on Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) as part of the Sonardyne group. The acquisition of 2G Robotics is the latest step in Sonardyne’s long-term growth strategy and follows the acquisition of Danish survey software company EIVA last year.

The company 2G Robotics is based in Ontario, Canada. The company was founded in 2007 and will continue to operate from its current location with the Chief Executive Officer remaining.

Managing Director of Sonardyne, John Ramsden, said: “2G Robotics has a dedicated research team and well developed product and service lines, with scope for growth. As an independent company, their offering is complementary to the growing range of products and services our wider group of companies provides to the marine sector.”

The terms of the acquisition, which was for the business and assets of 2G Robotics Inc., were not disclosed. The firm will join the Sonardyne group of companies, while remaining an independent business and brand, continuing to serve its customer base in AUVs and ROVs.

Representatives from 2G Robotics spoke about their desire to use the acquisition to further their reach and get support from Sonardyne. The company has also done extensive work in the maintenance of infrastructure and its technology has been used in the Arctic and Antarctic, during salvage operations including the Costa Concordia, and in a variety of offshore missions including examining the wreckage of the Titanic.
