Babcock secures contract to provide small boat support to the MOD

Boat manufacturer Babcock has secured a contract to provide small boat support to the MOD including maintenance and repair.

Under the new contract, Babcock will provide small boat support to the Royal Marines, Royal Navy, and MOD Police for six and a half years. The company will work on reliability monitoring, repairs, transportation, Post Design Service (PDS), spares, and trials.

The small boats will operate across British bases including Portsmouth and Devonport as well as overseas in Brunei, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, and Cyprus. The contract aims to improve the safety and reliability of current equipment including Archer Class patrol and training vessels, yachts, static training vessels, Rigid-Inflatable Boats, police boats, and small cadet boats.

Simon Knight, Babcock Naval Engineering Director, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by the MOD to work on the repair and maintenance of its small boats.”

“With our network of experienced staff and sub-contractors we look forward to supporting the fleet by delivering an agile support package which will highlight our capability in integrated engineering as well as our commitment to quality.”

Babcock is one of the companies appointed by the Commercially Supported Shipping (CSS) team at Defence Equipment and Support for small boats. Throughout the contract, the company will also complete post design tasks where required.

Babcock the Aerospace and Defence company has also worked in aviation, marine, nuclear, and land. They have worked for the MOD before, recently providing dive boats, cadet boats, Mexoflotes, and police and patrol boats in the Gibraltar region.
