The US Navy’s Sea Warrior Programme, which seeks to improve access to sailor’s data, achieved Authorisation to Operate in development testing.

The move comes as part of plans to improve access to sailor’s data across the Authoritative Data Environment (ADE). The new systems will allow personnel to access their data without needing inconsistent multiple computer systems.

The new authorisation will allow the systems to be fully tested before being deployed, especially for accuracy and security, allowing sailors to access all their personal information in one place. The US Navy is embracing cloud technology across all systems, with the creation of personal hubs coming in response to sailor feedback.

Jeffrey Bowell, principal assistant program manager for the Navy’s Sea Warrior Program said: “We like to call ADE the ‘single source of truth’ because it will eliminate redundant information and provide accurate, timely data across all Navy systems.”

“While this is a major achievement for our program, it’s even a bigger step forward in the Navy’s efforts to transform and consolidate its numerous systems and data warehouses into a single system of systems.”

Sailors have previously complained about the difficulty in accessing their information and it is hoped the portal will grant them extra time for their work and leisure. Another major concern is the accuracy and consistency of data across which the Navy hopes to tackle by modernising Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (MPT&E) networks.
