Construction has begun on a new technical institute that will provide specialist training for the Qatar armed forces.

BAE Systems is constructing the new technical institute for the Qatar armed forces which had a groundbreaking ceremony in Doha. At the ceremony, a symbolic stone was placed by Staff Lieutenant General (Pilot) His Excellency Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanim, the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces and BAE Systems CEO, Charles Woodburn.

The institute will provide technical, engineering, and English language training to Qatari personnel as part of efforts to forge ties between the UK and Qatar. BAE Systems will provide training based on their wide-ranging knowledge of combat and training.

Charles Woodburn said: “We are proud to play a part in developing Qatar’s future workforce. With the establishment of the Technical Institute, we will deliver the highest standard of technical training and critical skills to the Qatar Armed Forces.”

“This important milestone in our relationship with Qatar underlines BAE Systems’ commitment to working in partnership with our customers as they deliver their national priorities.”

Graduates from the institute will gain internationally recognised qualifications and be able to work in technically advanced projects within Qatar defence in the future. Links between the two countries advanced in 2017 when collaborations began through training methods and military supplies.
