Held across a single day, DPRTE 2018 takes place less than a week away at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on 27 March and offers a unique opportunity to showcase goods and services, as well as the chance to engage directly with both the key personnel and organisations responsible for setting strategy and operationally delivering an annual budget of over £19 billion.
QinetiQ will take their place at the Prime Contractor Engagement Village and join a stellar list that already includes Airbus; BAE Systems; General Dynamics; Atkins; MBDA; Rolls-Royce, Raytheon, DxC Technology, General Electric and Cammell Laird.
The Prime Contractor Village provides the defence supply chain with an essential opportunity to connect with MOD Tier 1 contractors – acting as a stepping-stone onto the Ministry of Defence supply chain for smaller suppliers or those new to the defence marketplace.
Innovative sub-contracting was embraced in the Government’s National Security Strategy and Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) 2015, which encourages SME and non-traditional suppliers to sell to the UK defence marketplace.
To achieve this, the MOD has created a new network of Supply Chain Advocates who are signposting opportunities in the marketplace through transparency of supply chain competition; this ground-breaking programme can be used as a starting point for conversations in the Prime Contractor Engagement Village at DPRTE.
As we count down to DPRTE 2018, Defence Online’s Matt Brown caught up with Tom O’Byrne, Procurement Campaign Lead at QinetiQ to preview his hopes for the event.
What sets DPRTE apart from other events in the defence calendar?
You will be hard pressed to find an event that is such highly represented by Small to Medium Enterprises and the UK MoD, mix this with wider industry and you have a great event.
What opportunities do events like DPRTE afford the defence community?
DPRTE gives QinetiQ the opportunity to engage with current and future supply chain partners, share best practice within the knowledge transfer areas and find the unexpected.
What are you most looking forward to during DPRTE 2018?
DPRTE always brings something new; whether a new opportunity, a new supplier or a new idea and therefore I am really looking forward to engaging with other organisations both through Prime Contractor Engagement Village but also visiting as many exhibitors as possible to understand their capability and share QinetiQ’s story.
What does QinetiQ have on the agenda this year?
