CONNECTING THE DEFENCE COMMUNITY WITH INSIGHT, INTELLIGENCE & OPPORTUNITIES

With DPRTE 2018 now only one week away, Defence Online’s Matt Brown spoke with Miles Hutton, Sales Director, Defence and National Security at DXC Technology – one of the top six suppliers to the Ministry of Defence – to discuss the company’s hopes for the event taking place at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on 27 March.

What opportunities do events like DPRTE afford the defence community?

DPRTE provides a chance to discuss and share the issues and opportunities across the Defence support chain, efficiently and effectively, whilst updating the community on changes. It also provides organisations the opportunity to hear what is changing in the wider public sector and commercial sectors. We welcome the opportunity to share and discuss their wider and emerging portfolio, particularly digital, and not just what MoD has bought in the past.

What are you most looking forward to during DPRTE 2018?

We look forward to introducing the wider community to DXC Technology. It has been an exciting first year for us, establishing the largest independent information technology services company in the world. We continue to ensure that people everywhere are familiar with the brand and what we stand for, so we are looking forward to sharing our focus on digital transformation and our approach to automation, DXC Bionix, as well as our thought-leadership positions on Digital Workplace, Cloud Exploitation, Analytics and Security. These are critically important, as much so as DII, MODNET, SPVA, Training and other key MoD programmes, including IT infrastructure and BPS services, that we provide, albeit of a far larger size and scale.

Do events like DPRTE present DXC Technology with the best opportunity to reach out to the defence supply chain?

We hope to make the most of this opportunity to interact with the defence supply chain. We are supporting DPRTE with a speaking slot to promote how we can support the Modernising Defence Programme. We are also attending in the Prime Pavilion to reach out to both customers and the supply chain to share what has changed for us over the last year and to hear what has changed for customers and suppliers, as well. We are especially interested in identifying mutual opportunities with the SMEs to deliver on the Department’s commitments to them and to wider UK prosperity.

What are DXC Technology’s hopes for the event?

We hope to listen to what has changed for the customer and understand how that will change and drive different procurement behaviours and expectations. DXC Technology wants to deliver a step change in information technology and associated efficiencies that will contribute to the Modernising Defence Programme.

It is a great opportunity to showcase our digital portfolio, which includes how we use automation, artificial intelligence, robotics and lean processes to optimise our own business. We will be looking to learn where the client community are driving the business benefits of change, efficiency, performance, agility, etc. and looking for industry to use modern, innovative approaches, and take some risk in meeting the challenges of the future. This is applicable across the domains, whether it be delivering greater effect on the battlefield or running Defence as a business more efficiently.

Finally, where can attendees find DXC Technology at DPRTE and what can they expect.

We will be in the Prime Pavilion with a diary for running appointments all day and speaking at 12:30 on The opportunities in digitising defence, where we hope to challenge the audience on their ambition for digitisation and excite the supply chain on the opportunities it presents.
