Official Media Partners for:

Defence Procurement, Research, Technology & Exportability (DPRTE), the UK’s premier defence procurement event, is returning to Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on 27 March 2018.

Now in its sixth year, DPRTE will once again feature high-profile partners from both industry and government to facilitate networking and knowledge sharing on the day.

The Export & Business Growth Knowledge Transfer Zone is one of five Knowledge Transfer Zones at DPRTE 2018 and is supported by the Department for International Trade and the Defence & Security Organisation.

The Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015 outlined plans to increase the Ministry of Defence’s direct contribution to prosperity by increasing investment and support to UK defence and security exports through the Department for International Trade’s Defence & Security Organisation (DIT DSO).

The zone is home to exhibitors and visitors with specialist export advice and practical assistance, enabled through DIT’s DSO and its close working relationship with the Ministry of Defence and Export Control Organisation.

Kicking off the seminar sessions will be Howard Gibbs, Head, Small Business Unit, DIT DSO, with Defence & Security Exports: Support for SMEs. This will provide an introduction to the wide range of support and services provided by HM Government to assist UK defence/security small & medium-sized business.

Howard will be followed by Major Steve Reynolds, OC Export Support Team, DIT DSO, who will discuss Military Support for Defence & Security Exports.

Next up is Claire Harrison, Head, Business Awareness, DIT Export Control Organisation, who will give guidance on export licencing.

The presence of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) is a huge coup for DPRTE and representatives from the DOD will deliver a session focussed on Doing Business with the United States Department of Defense.

Next up is Adam Thomas, Senior Press Officer for DIT DSO, who will explore opportunities in media and how UK SMEs can use the local, national and international press and media to their advantage.

Lt Col Mark Davis, Cyber & Comms, DIT DSO will lead a session entitled Delivering the National Cyber Security and UK Cyber Export Strategies, touching on issues such as the simplification of the export licence process; understanding which goods require licenses; which licenses to adopt, how to apply; and understanding legal requirements/obligations.

Lara McGrath, Codification Sales Manager, United Kingdom National Codification Bureau (UKNCB) DE&S will then round the things off with a session on NATO codification.

The latest exciting announcement coming from DPRTE is that the Australian Department of Defence will deliver a session in the Export zone on International Engagement, where they will provide a brief outline of their current programs, addressing recent Australian Industry Capability requirements, and other recent Defence Industry Policy initiatives. They will also be available to take appointments in the Buyer Engagement Village.

The opportunity to visit the Export & Business Growth Knowledge Transfer Zone to meet civilian and military advisers and to attend a number of seminar sessions aimed at the UK SME defence & security community is one not to be missed.
