Some £13Bn of orders have been committed to UK aerospace industry during the Paris Air Show.

The world’s premier aerospace events, the Paris Air Show has seen unprecedented confidence in UK industry, with numerous orders and commitments being made with exhibiting UK businesses.

Over 1,400 aircraft have been ordered at the keynote event, which has seen some £130Bn committed to the industry globally. The UK aerospace industry is one of the biggest beneficiaries, holding its position as the strongest in Europe.

The UK has seen orders worth £9.7Bn of ingle aisle aircraft, out of some 1,220 ordered globally, with £3bn of widebody aircraft and £160M from regional aircraft.

ADS Chief Executive Paul Everitt said: “Aircraft orders announced at this week’s Paris Air Show will be worth £13bn to the UK’s globally competitive aerospace sector.

“This welcome news represents a real vote of confidence in the industry around the world and especially in the UK.

“Manufacturers choose our highly skilled, innovative and productive aerospace industry to deliver components and systems for the most technologically advanced and popular models of commercial aircraft.

“The 88 companies exhibiting in the UK Pavilion this week have shown the world why the UK aerospace sector continues to be so successful and is such an attractive destination for international investment.”

Business Minister Richard Harrington said: “I met many innovative UK aerospace companies at the Paris Air Show. The new aircraft orders and business secured demonstrates why the UK is a leading civil aerospace nation, second only to the US.

“Working through the Aerospace Growth Partnership, which delivers our industrial strategy for the sector, government is committed to securing its continuing global competitiveness and export success.”

This manufacturing success is being seen across the UK, with design, development and manufacturing of wings for all Airbus aircraft platforms to be undertaken in Broughton, GKN Aerospace in Isle of Wight will make fuel-saving advanced technology winglets for Boeing’s 737 MAX, Rolls Royce in Derby will continue to produce the world’s most efficient large aero engine, the Trent XWB, for the Airbus A350, while in Belfast, Bombardier Aerospace manufacture wing-mounted flight components for the Q400.
