Section V: Summary of Requirements / Description of Work
Summary of Requirements / Description of Work: Electrical power systems design services. A shortfall has been identified in the Type 45 Power and Propulsion (P&P) system. The Power Improvement Project (PIP) has been established to urgently address this by installing additional power generation sources to improve the P&P system resilience and redundancy. The PIP requirement is scoped to include; Programme Management, Engineering Design, System Integration, equipment procurement, installation, testing and commissioning. The PIP solution must be coherent with current and future in-service support models, and management arrangements.

Early market assessment identified potential to advance schedule and reduce costs by leveraging innovative commercial approaches that harness the economies available within the wider UK shipbuilding enterprise. The Authority intends to further explore our contractual approach with LOTS (Design, Integration and Embodiment), through market engagement planned for the New Year.

The Authority is hosting an industry day on 30 January 2017 to present the Power Improvement Project (PIP), at BAWA Healthcare and Leisure Centre, 589 Southmead Road, Filton, Bristol BS34 7RG. Due to logistical issues and the number of possible suppliers wishing to attend this event there is a restriction of a maximum of two delegates from each Company.
If you are interested in attending this event please confirm in writing to the Contracting Authority by 15:00 on Wednesday 25 January 2017 to DESShipsComrcl-T45-PIP@mod.uk. Further details will then be issued to interested parties shortly after this date.

Due to the security classification of information an exemption has been granted on the grounds of National Security to allow us to limit suppliers to UK only. Non List-X suppliers will not be excluded as they will have the opportunity to gain clearance.
