4. Description: The Awarding Authority is a complex organisation made up of over one hundred disparate component bodies that include faculties, schools, departments, Institutions and colleges. The bulk of the hazardous chemical waste is produced by the 40 or so scientific departments, which are spread over a wide geographical area in and around Specified Location. However collections may be required from any University site or college. Some of the departments such as Chemistry produce large volumes of waste (approx. 50% of the total), have their own dedicated waste stores and require frequent collections. Others such as the Centre for Mathematical Sciences produce only small volumes and are serviced as requested.
The collection and disposal of this chemical waste is currently co-ordinated by the University?s Occupational Health and Safety Service through a single contract that expires in 2017. It is the intention of this tender to establish a contract with a single provider to cover all of the University?s hazardous chemical waste collection and disposal requirements for a maximum 5 year period.
