A number of Dutch CV90s will be the first NATO combat vehicles to receive BAE Systems ‘Active Protection’.
The contract from the Netherlands will see the testing and verification of Active Protection Systems (APS) on its Infantry Fighting Vehicles. BAE Systems is the manufacturer of the vehicles and will lead the integration of the system.
Providing a range of counter measures that can intercept threats, this advanced solution gives increased protection to crew, as well as vehicle survivability.
Following the integration of APS, BAE Systems will also install the Iron Fist automated system. Developed by IMI Systems of Israel, the radar system will detect, track and eliminate threats. The ability to integrate these solutions into the CV90s gives the vehicles an advantage to users, allowing the vehicles to develop and evolve to meet customer requirements.
Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of Sweden-based BAE Systems Hägglunds said: “Iron Fist will give the Dutch Army a highly sophisticated defensive tool on its CV90s to counter threats and improve the safety of the vehicle and its crew,”

With the integration of APS and Iron Fist, expected by early 2018, the Netherlands is expected to be the first NATO country to utilise an Active Protection System on its combat vehicles.
“During this test phase we will pre-qualify the active system against our threat specification, and together with our partners analyze system safety and prepare for its integration onto our CV9035NL vehicles,” said Hans de Goeij, project manager at the Netherlands Defence Materiel Organisation, Ministry of Defence.
BAE Systems is a leader in the development of survivability technologies for combat vehicles, from futuristic ADAPTIV cloaking technology, to BattleView 360, an augmented reality technology which allows crews to view a 360° ‘through’ the armour.
