Section V: Summary of Requirements / Description of Work
Summary of Requirements / Description of Work: Satellite communications equipment. The Contracting Authority has a requirement for the introduction of an externally fitted SATCOM System for use on the Tornado and Typhoon fleets.
The timescales for this requirement are such that the Contracting Authority requires a COTS Product which may itself require modification, but necessitates minimal or no modification to the current aircraft configuration. The product will be able to utilise existing aircraft interfaces and power.
It is essential that the product will be able to transmit/receive encrypted/unencrypted VHF Lo and U/VHF voice services. The product must be interoperable with satellite communication systems, (e.g. TACSAT).
The priority being to support aircraft radio voice communications with the potential, or growth path, for encrypted data (e.g. text and pictures). Options provided must include the technical maturity (TRL status, definitions of which can be found within the MOD Acquisition System Guidance (ASG) site accessed via the Defence Gateway) of any proposed solutions and must include ROM Costs. The intention is to field a solution for platform integration within 3-6mths of contract award.
