4. Description: There is an ongoing requirement to characterise antibodies targeted against biological agents generated by the awarding authority. These antibodies may be used as therapeutics, diagnostic or detection reagents. To derisk exploitation of these antibodies, a high degree of characterisation is required, including the affinity of antibodies to their target antigen (for diagnostic or therapeutic candidates) as well as identifying antigen epitopes that are shared between antibodies.
Determining antibody affinity and common epitopes will greatly improve the degree to which Dstl-generated antibodies are characterised. This information will also enable Dstl and partners to develop more robust, sensitive, and specific antibody-based assays for hazardous biological agents in a shorter timeframe than may be typically expected.
This work is currently done using the Sartorius Octet Red96 instrument. However, the model currently in use is no longer supported. Dstl is therefore seeking a replacement with the equivalent model, the R8.
