4. Description: Supply and Installation of Refrigeration System for Spreadable Butter Production Facility
Requirement
The Awarding Authority seeks quotations for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of refrigeration systems to serve a chilled production and storage environment within a new spreadable butter production facility.
The successful supplier shall provide a complete refrigeration solution including condensing units, evaporators, refrigerant pipework, controls, commissioning, and associated equipment necessary to deliver a fully operational system.
Scope of Supply
Refrigeration Systems
The refrigeration installation shall comprise:
Two independent direct expansion (DX) refrigeration systems.
External installation of condensing units adjacent to the chill store.
Independent refrigeration circuits to provide resilience and operational flexibility.
Complete refrigerant pipework services between condensing units and evaporators.
Refrigerant Pipework
The successful supplier shall:
Supply and install all refrigerant pipework associated with the refrigeration systems.
Route refrigerant pipework through available building voids and service areas.
Provide all supports, brackets, fixings, insulation, and associated installation materials.
Pressure test and commission all refrigerant services prior to handover.
Evaporators
The system shall include:
Four evaporator units serving the chilled production and/or storage areas.
Evaporators sized appropriately to meet the required cooling duties.
Installation and connection of all evaporator units.
Refrigerant control via electronic expansion valves.
Refrigeration Controls
The successful supplier shall provide:
A dedicated refrigeration control panel.
Control and monitoring of all four evaporator units.
Automatic temperature regulation based on return air temperature measurements.
Control functions necessary to maintain stable operating temperatures within the chilled environment.
Alarm indication and fault monitoring facilities.
System Performance
The refrigeration system shall be designed to:
Maintain the required chilled operating conditions for spreadable butter production and storage.
Provide reliable and energy-efficient operation.
Deliver uniform cooling performance throughout the designated areas.
Support continuous food production activities.
Testing and Commissioning
The successful supplier shall:
Carry out pressure testing of all refrigerant pipework.
Undertake leak testing and verification of system integrity.
Commission all refrigeration equipment and controls.
Demonstrate satisfactory cooling performance and temperature control.
Provide commissioning documentation and operating instructions.
Exclusions and Assumptions
The following is excluded from this scope and will be provided by others:
Secondary structural steelwork required to support ceiling-mounted evaporators.
Any building structural modifications required for equipment support.
Suppliers shall identify any structural support requirements as part of their quotation.
Technical Requirements
Equipment shall be suitable for operation within a food manufacturing environment.
Refrigeration controls shall utilise electronic expansion valve technology.
Installation shall comply with all relevant refrigeration, electrical, environmental, and health and safety regulations.
Systems shall be designed to facilitate maintenance and reliable long-term operation.
Documentation
The successful supplier shall provide:
Equipment data sheets.
Refrigeration schematics.
Electrical drawings.
Operating and maintenance manuals.
Commissioning certificates.
Warranty documentation.
Quotation Requirements
Suppliers shall provide:
Detailed technical proposal.
Refrigeration capacities and design assumptions.
Equipment specifications.
Lead times for manufacture, supply, and installation.
Warranty details.
Total cost including supply, delivery, installation, testing, and commissioning.
Details of any recommended maintenance or service agreements.
