4. Description: Works for complete or part construction and civil engineering work. Electrical wiring and fitting work. Electrical installation work. Painting work. Drainage works. Plumbing and drain-laying work. Tarbat Ness Lighthouses has been scheduled for Refurbishment and Upgrade, with the addition of the installation of a new toilet in the left-hand quarterdeck store. Details of the proposed works are listed below:

The proposed works will involve the removal of the existing optic with the de-commissioning of the existing electrical operating system to be replaced with a new modernised version that is all contained within the tower. A full external and internal refurbishment of tower is required.

More specifically, the main items of work listed below: –

a)Establish Welfare Facilities and set up site along with storage areas for project materials.
b)Establish temporary navigational light on the balcony of the tower before the removal of the existing optic.
c)After the removal of the mercury from the existing gearless pedestal by NLB trained personnel, the pedestal and existing optic lamp array units complete with solid Tufnol lamp holders (containing Chrysotile Asbestos) in place, can be removed.
d)De-commission the existing Electrical Industrial system from the tower building that operates the optic / station at present, to be replaced with a new electrical modernised installation within the tower.
e)Remove all de-commissioned equipment and arrange for transportation of batteries and optic to Oban Depot.
f)Construction of new toilet compartment in the left-hand quarterdeck store, with engineering works to connect water supply and foul water to existing systems on site.
g)Refurbishment works of the tower and quarterdeck, externally and internally.
h)Removal of temporary light only after the installation and commissioning of the new electrical installation and optic.
i)Remove all other excess project materials for safe disposal and removal as necessary to clear the site.
