A defence authority has invited a tender for an aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) vehicle.
The following specifications are required:
Chassis: The chasis must be manufactured by the ARFF vehicle manufacturer with 6×6 all-wheel drive with a wheelbase of 6400 mm.
Vehicle must be mounted with turbo charged diesel engine, automatic transmission with a power divider mounted power take off which allows the pump drive to be engaged at all speeds.
Engine: The vehicle engine shall have a minimum of 650 horsepower (hp) torque and speed charateristics to meet and maintain all specified vehicular performance.
The engine must be completed with alternator, starter motor, water pump, etc. The throttle control should be by air or electric actuation from the driver’s pedal. The fully laden vehicle shall consistently be able to accelerate from 0-50 mph (0-80km/h) within max 35 seconds on dry level concrete pavement at the operational airport. Top speed shall not be less then 113 km/hr. The certificate of engine manufacturer is required to submit approving usage for ARFF vehicle.
Front and rear suspension: The vehicle must comprise a high performance coil spring system. High mobility off-road/paved road suspension with variable rate coil spring/leaf spring suspension with shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. Axle manufacturer’s certificate shall be submitted approving usage of ARFF vehicles.
Brakes: Pneumatically operated drum brakes
Braking system: Must comply with ECE-R13/ICAO/FMVSS. Service brake performance shall meet the minimum NFPA/ICAO requirements below:
33km/h – 0 in less than 12 m
64km/h – 0 in less than 49 m
Holding capacity of service brake: minimum 50% slope. Holding capacity of parking brake: minimum 20% slope.
Wheels and tyres: All wheels and tyres must be manufacturer standard. Tyres must be high traction universal standard size. All wheels and tyres shall be interchangeable. A spare wheel and tire assembly must be supplied loose with the vehicle. A tire inflation kit should be provided to enable the tires to be inflated from the vehicle air system.
Cooling system: Water-cooled type. The system should be designed to ensure efficient cooling during normal fire fighting operations in ambient temperatures up to +55 degree celsius.
