4. Description: Medical equipments. Current Provision – The Trust currently has the use of one excimer laser system. The laser is used to deliver pulsed laser energy to the operative site during procedures to remove cardiac leads from patients. The laser energy is in the UV wavelength and is delivered via optical fibres.

Future Provision – Having conducted a six month clinical trial the Trust is now assessing the availability of existing and emerging laser technology within the market and the options for financing the technology e.g. capital purchase or rental arrangements. It is envisaged that any arrangement for the provision of equipment and related consumables would include ongoing support, servicing and maintenance. Up-to-date staff training provided by the manufacturer / supplier may also, if appropriate, be an integral part of the contract.
