Babcock International has won a five-year contract with the Royal Navy to supply hydraulic equipment onboard ships and submarines.

As well as supplying hydraulic equipment for surface ships and submarines the Aerospace and Defence company will provide ongoing support, maintenance, and repairs for existing systems. This includes Submarine First Level Equipment and General Hydraulic Equipment.

The contract covers five years but includes a two-year extension option. The work will be carried out by a team of Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP) mainly working from the Combined Weapons and Equipment Workshop (CWEW) which already processes a lot of hydraulics.

Martin Laity, Director of Mission Systems at Babcock’s Defence Systems Technology, said: “We are pleased to have been awarded this contract to support these critical services and assets for the Royal Navy.”

“To support the significant level of technical complexity associated with the hydraulic product range, we will also draw on technical support from our Warships and Submarine businesses, which have significant experience in commissioning equipment for similar contracts.”

Babcock will also be in charge of the Surface Ship Definition Database (SSDD) and the Mater Record Data Centre (MRDC) through another recent contract. This also covers the maintenance of existing data interrogation systems as well as providing new ones, including aboard the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers.
