Soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (3 PWRR) are taking part in a joint exercise with the US National Guard.

Exercise Northern Strike take places at Camp Grayling in Michigan, which is the largest US National Guard training facility, spread over three counties.

The exercise allows 3 PWRR to train alongside their American hosts as well as Danish, Latvian and Polish military contingents.

Together, as a multinational force, almost 6,000 troops will participate in the exercise.

Around 140 Reservists from Folkestone in Kent, supported by soldiers from its sister companies based in Farnham and Sussex have been deployed to take part in the exercise and will train as part of the multinational force.

Troops from 3 PWRR will take part in an Urban Force on Force attack – UK vs US troops in addition to some battle preparation including blank to live firing processes.

They will also endure a company size live firing deliberate attack exercise including an air assault – utilising US support helicopters for insertion and use of air, mortars and artillery fire support.

It is envisaged that collaborating closely with troops from other participating nations in Exercise Northern Strike will enhance 3 PWRRs’ ability to deploy as a multinational force and also highlight the diversity of the British Army in terms of the capability it can offer.
