With less than a month to go, the Defence Procurement Research Technology & Exportability (DPRTE) 2026 exhibition is set to provide a critical platform for the UK defence supply chain.
As the Ministry of Defence (MOD) continues to evolve its procurement strategies in line with the Strategic Defence Review, this event serves as a primary interface for prime contractors, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and government decision-makers. The 2026 iteration is structured around six dedicated zones, each led by senior MOD figures, designed to offer actionable insights into future technology pathways, infrastructure requirements, and international export opportunities.
Innovation remains a central pillar of the event, with the Innovation and Future Defence Zone hosting leaders such as James Gavin and Helen O’Rourke from the UK Defence Innovation Unit (UKDI). This zone focuses on the transition of technology from research and development to frontline delivery, providing a roadmap for businesses involved in advanced technologies and sovereign capability development. Complementing this is the UK Defence Industry Growth and Development Zone, where Fred Thomas MP and Ben English, Chief of Staff for Defence Industrial Strategy, will discuss government investment and the Small Business Growth programme. These sessions are intended to align industry growth with national prosperity and the levelling-up agenda within the defence sector.
For businesses focused on the built environment and operational support, the Infrastructure and Estates Zone, led by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), offers direct access to commercial directors and strategic planners. Major General Andy Sturrock and Claire Benham will outline priorities for the defence estate, including facilities management, modernisation of accommodation, and the integration of Net Zero initiatives. Simultaneously, the Commercial Transformation Zone, featuring Jo Osburn-Hughes of Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), will address the ongoing shift toward commercial excellence and the development of high-performing partnerships between DE&S and its industrial providers.
The Supply Chain and Market Engagement Zone, spearheaded by John Kite and Ed Fairhurst, will provide essential data on supply chain architecture and resilience for Tier 1, 2, and 3 suppliers. This is paired with the newly established International Collaboration and Exports Zone, managed by the National Armaments Directorate (NAD). This area is specifically designed to facilitate global market entry for UK-based firms, offering guidance on international partnership frameworks and regulatory pathways for defence exports. By providing direct access to these leadership tiers, DPRTE 2026 allows organisations to strategically map their engagement with the MOD, ensuring they are positioned to meet the shifting demands of the UK’s defence industrial base.
