As official media partner of DPRTE 2026, Defence Online is delighted to announce a major addition to the event’s keynote programme.
John Godfrey, Managing Director for Public Affairs, Policy and Research at TheCityUK, will join the critical “Financing the Future of Defence” session at DPRTE 2026.
With four decades of experience spanning City institutions, government, and strategic policy, John brings unparalleled expertise in bridging finance, policy, and infrastructure investment. His track record demonstrates why his insights matter now more than ever:
Why Defence Suppliers Need to Hear This
As the UK government commits to 2.6% GDP defence spending by 2027 – and pursues the NATO 5% security target by 2035 – understanding the financing mechanisms, commercial frameworks, and policy levers driving this investment is critical.
With £288 billion in equipment procurement planned over the next decade, the question isn’t whether investment is coming. It’s whether your business understands how it’s financed, who controls the commercial terms, and how to position yourself to win it.
The session with John will explore:
  • How defence procurement is being financed at scale
  • Commercial opportunities emerging from new funding structures
  • Policy frameworks shaping the next wave of defence contracts
  • Public-private partnership models driving investment
“Financing the Future of Defence” is an essential session for any supplier serious about winning defence contracts and understanding the evolving commercial landscape,” said Grahame Steed from event organiser, BiP Solutions. “John Godfrey’s unique vantage point – sitting at the intersection of finance, policy, and strategic investment – makes him one of the most important voices in this conversation.
DPRTE 2026 brings together 3,000+ defence procurement leaders, MOD buyers, and industry suppliers for two days of networking, knowledge-sharing, and commercial opportunity.
