The UK Government has recognised 100 employers for supporting the armed forces through their inclusion of veterans, military personnel, and their families.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace recognised 100 employers for supporting the armed forces with an Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award. Winners include 23 local authorities, 13 NHS hospitals, and 29 SMEs.

The MOD Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award recognises businesses and organisations that offer support to members of the armed forces including allowing flexibility, employing veterans, and providing help for those transitioning to life outside the army. The awards have been growing over the years and the number of winners has doubled to 228 in the last year, with the awards set to be given out in November at the National Army Museum in London.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “These awards recognise the outstanding support for our armed forces from employers across Britain and I would like to thank and congratulate each and every one.”

“Regardless of size, location or sector, employing ex-forces personnel is good for business and this year we have doubled the number of awards in recognition of the fantastic support they give.”

All of the winners have signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant and many have used the MOD Career Transition Partnership to employ those who have left military service. Many have also made personal commitments to help servicemen and women and veterans find work.

Winners include local councils, Royal Mail Group Limited, Rolls-Royce, Police Forces across the country, and Universities. Many of the winners were small businesses set up by veterans, with employers drawing from their own experience to provide a supportive environment for workers.
