The Contract is for the provision of grass pitches and a footbridge within the Specified Location. This contract will run in conjunction with the SSEC Main Works for the project. The project will be procured as design and build contract. The contractor is required to complete technical design of the footbridge and multiple sand matress grass pitches during the pre-construction period in accordance with the Works Information. There are eight grass pitches located within the SSEC site, four on the Main Campus Floodplain (Area A) and four on the St. Lucia Floodplain (Area B). All grass pitches are located along the River Strule within flood plains.The River Strule is a designated watercourse hydrologically connected to the River Foyle Special Area of Conservation (SAC), the Lough Foyle Special Protection Areas (SPA) and Ramsar Site. The St. Lucia Floodplain is connected to the Main Campus site via an existing bailey bridge which is to be demolished and removed as part of this contract. Access to the St. Lucia floodplain will be from the Derry Road through the ex-army barracks. Access to Main Campus floodplain is through the Main Campus site from Gortin Road entrance. This access will be shared with other contractors. The contractor is required to design and construct a new footbridge to replace the existing bailey bridge. The footbridge will be required to accommodate service vehciles which require access to undertake routine maintenance of the St. Lucia floodplain pitches. The contractor is responsible for obtaining structural and geotechnical certification for all footbridge structures. Access for the demolition and construction works associated with the new footbridge will be from the Derry Road through the ex-army barracks. The contractor is required to design and construct natural grass pitches which will include: Management of contaminated material; Bulk earthworks; Drainage; Construction of multiple sand mattress natural grass pitches. The proposed construction period is 18 months to enable phasing of the footbridge and grass pitches works. It is the responsibility of the contractor to phase the works. Completion of the contract will be certified following the successful completion of a 12 month growing in period for the grass pitches during which time the contractor will be responsible for maintenance of the grass pitches. Maintenance requirements post contract completion may be considered by the Employer. It should be noted that where the main contractor has appointed Key Sub-contractors to deliver a significant part of the works, (i.e. the grass pitches and/or footbridge) details of these subcontractors must be filled into the text box.
