Plans are moving forward for an enhanced Air Power Conference to mark the centenary of the RAF next year following a successful 2017 event in London.

Around 350 people, including around 45 air force chiefs from around the world, attended the two-day forum to take part in a series of discussion and debate.

The theme of 21st Century Partnerships saw a host of respected speakers from the military, Government, industry and academia provide wide ranging insights into topics including how air forces can better work together, how they can work more effectively with industry in the operational space and using air power for the international good.

The Air Power Conference also saw Defence Secretary, Sir Michael Fallon, make several announcements on issues including RAF fighter upgrades, joint operational issues and future make-up of the P-8 Poseidon force.

APA President Air Marshal (Ret’d) Greg Bagwell said: “This year’s Conference restored the event as a leading forum for discussing and debating the current and future direction of air power. The reaction to the two days was extremely positive and we will look to build upon this.”

Plans are already being made to increase the size of the event for 2018, which will be one of the key elements in the programme to mark the centenary of the RAF.

Greg Bagwell added: “We are tremendously excited about next year’s event in the context of the overall centenary programme and plans are already underway to make the Conference an integral part of what will be a fantastic year to mark this milestone in RAF history.”
