Seddon Construction has started work on a multi-million pound northern hub at the National College for Nuclear in Cumbria.Located at Lakes College, Workington and forming part of the county’s Centre of Nuclear Excellence initiative, the world-class training facility is one of two purpose-built sites being developed with the aim to train 7,000 people by 2020.Developer Seddon will build two laboratories, preparation room, a project workspace area, six group room facilities, a digital consulting area and two virtual reality suites.The northern hub will also benefit from an open reception and heart space learning area with fixed ICT on the ground and first floors, including a café and server area.Corten and aluminium cladding and curtain walling will be used on the external elevations, with stone cladding in the reception area.A ground-breaking ceremony took place at Lakes College on Monday and all construction is being completed to a BREEAM Very Good standard.
