The Rainton Meadows Arena is in the early stages of a major development.A planning application for a new building and retail development with restaurants and bars is being proposed.An exhibition’s opened, where locals are able to give their opinions.James Ridings is a developer on the site and says the public consultation is important.Roseberry Leisure (owners of Rainton Meadows Arena) have formed a joint venture with Real Estate Development Partnerships and are intending to submit a planning application for a new arena, retail development (including a new Aldi) and some food and drink units.The proposed development site is the existing Arena site and land immediately adjacent.The intention is to provide a new and improved arena facility to serve Sunderland and improve its profile in terms of concerts, functions and conferences as well as providing better retail facilities for residents in the area and workers on the business park.An exhibition was held at the Arena yesterday where members of the Developers’ project team were there to explain the proposals in more detail.For those who could not go to the exhibition the plans will be on consultants WYG’s website from today.You will be able to access the plans by going to www.wyg.com/rainton.
