Peel’s ambitious plans to build a £1bn scheme known as Trafford Waters, which involve creating up to 3,000 new homes and about 5,000 jobs in Greater Manchester, have been given the go-ahead.An outline planning application by Peel Investments (North) to regenerate land bounded by the Trafford Centre, the Manchester Ship Canal, Chill Factore and B&Q has been approved by Trafford Council’s planning committee.Over the next 20 years, the £1bn investment by Peel Land and Property is expected to create a major new neighbourhood on 50 acres of underused land. The Trafford Waters scheme is expected to create 5,000 jobs and bring 3,000 new homes, more than 100,000 sq ft of commercial space and a new primary school to Trafford. It is also envisaged that there will be 16 acres of high-quality, open-landscaped space, including four multi-use games areas and children’s play parks. This area will be activated by ground floor, small-scale shops as well as food and drink outlets.Peel has directly committed to spending £30m towards the new extended A57 road into Trafford City at Junction 10 of the M60, which includes a new lifting bridge link crossing the Manchester Ship Canal adjacent to Barton Bridge. This link bridge and road is due to be completed in 2017.Peel’s Trafford Waters project team includes NJL Consulting, the IBI Group, Gillespies, the Traffic Transport and Highway Consultancy, BWB Consulting and the Remarkable Group.
