The multimillion-pound Innovation Factory in Belfast has opened on the site of the former Mackies plant.The facility is designed to provide a creative working space for start-up and expanding businesses in the city, with a specialist focus on innovation, technology and product development.It will provide grade A office accommodation comprising 382 workstations across 111 business units. The facility will also include meeting and conference rooms, hot desking, a superfast broadband connection and on-site catering.The £9.1m project was part funded by Belfast City Council through its investment programme, as well as contributions from Invest NI (£2.1m) and the European Regional Development Fund, under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland (£4.15m).It was designed by Wayne Hemingway and is to be managed by Oxford Innovation.
