The development of Peel Ports’ ambitious deepwater container terminal, Liverpool2, has taken a further step forward after plans for a major new refuelling facility at the Port of Liverpool were approved.Planning permission has been granted for a 24-hour HGV refuelling facility at the Port of Liverpool through a partnership between Certas Energy and Peel Ports Group. The scheme is located at the main entrance to the Royal Seaforth Container Terminal and next to the new Liverpool2 deepwater container terminal, which is part of Peel Ports’ £750m investment programme across the North West. The Port of Liverpool is one of the UK’s busiest ports, with traffic levels likely to grow further as a result of ongoing investment into the facility.Ground works and construction are expected to start imminently on a refuelling facility capable of servicing up to eight HGVs at the same time. The scheme will feature high-speed pumps combined with advanced data collection, fuel monitoring equipment and filtration systems. The project is designed to make the port more convenient for hauliers because there will be no need for drivers to divert off route to refuel. Instead, they can cut onward journey times by refuelling as they enter or leave the port.
