The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare has applied for planning permission to create a new aircraft display and maintenance hangar. The Locking museum hopes to replace an old maintenance and storage building – which it has been using since 1990 – with a purpose-built hangar. It will be used to house the museum’s Weston collection, meaning aircraft which have a particular connection to Weston Airfield will be on display inside. The planning application to North Somerset Council says the hangar will sit on a concrete base from a World War Two building currently being used as car parking and display space. It will follow the characteristic appearance of a 1930-40s hangar, with a curved roof.
