Plans have been submitted to transform an agricultural building in Leicestershire into a tannery specialising in goat hides.The application for Arnesby Lodge on Welford Road in Arnesby was submitted to Harborough District Council by Jack Millington, who is behind new British leather brand Billy Tannery.The site is described as “largely redundant” and will be converted into a micro-tannery that will produce no more than 150kg of crust leather per week.An environmental statement filed with the proposals said the designs have been prepared in conjunction with leather industry experts in Leicestershire, including the team at the Institute for Creative Technologies at the University of Northampton.The planning application is currently being considered by Harborough District Council.According to Billy Tannery’s Twitter page, the business is also poised to launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund its launch.
