A new Premier Inn hotel, Brewer’s Fayre restaurant and KFC drive-thru for Skegness will be decided by councillors this week.East Lindsey District Council’s planning committee will consider plans put forward by KCS developments to build a 80-bed hotel on the council-owned land, Pier Field.Objectors, including a community-led campaign called Save the Foreshore, have fought the plans since the scheme was first revealed to try and save the only remaining green space on Skegness foreshore. Many of the objectors believe the five-storey hotel, if granted, would see more developments given the go ahead on other parts of the foreshore as well as impact on independent hoteliers which offer sea views. While supporters to the scheme – including Butlins and the Embassy Theatre – believe the hotel would attract new visitors and open up a new sector for conferences to be held in the town.Others want the scheme to be passed as it will create year-round jobs. The application comes with a recommendation for approval.East Lindsey District Council selected KCS developments as the preferred bidder for the land, subject to the granting of planning permission.
