Revised plans to transform a grade II-listed historic Durham property into a four-star boutique hotel have been submitted. The Old Shire Hall at Old Elve was built in 1896 and has lain empty since Durham University vacated in 2012.Proposals were approved in late 2015 to transform the property into an 81-bedroomed Hotel Indigo. Included in the project will be the establishment of an MPW Steakhouse Bar & Grill. However, revised plans have now been submitted to Durham County Council. The main dining restaurant would now be “sensitively created” within the council chamber. The first floor would accommodate a dining gallery area above the chamber and, along with the second floor, would accommodate further hotel rooms.Shire Hall was acquired for £15m in April 2016 by Maven Capital Partners, which will oversee the project
