A business specialising in wigwam camping holidays has been given the green light to expand in the East Midlands after a planning application to establish its first site in Leicestershire was approved.A franchisee of Wigwam Holidays, which has 70 sites across the UK including one in Lincolnshire, lodged plans to use a site on land north to locally listed John Lee’s Cottage in Newtown Linford.Under the plans, the plot, which was previously used for grazing horses, will be occupied by ten deluxe wigwam camping pods arranged around a pond.A letter from Wigwam Holidays said the company did not have any sites currently in the Leicester area and is “confident” that the woodland setting would be “successful and sustainable”.The proposals have been approved by Charnwood Borough Council despite a number of objections, voicing concerns regarding the impact on the countryside and local ecology. However, 27 letters of support were also submitted, stating that the development would complement its surroundings and will be good for local business.
