Two proposed developments which could together provide almost 600 new homes in Cornwall are set to be given the go-ahead when they are put before councillors next week.An outline application has been submitted for a site in Helston, adjacent to the Flambards theme park, while a separate scheme from Redrow Homes proposes residential development on the outskirts of Wadebridge. The schemes will be discussed at a meeting of Cornwall Council’s strategic planning committee on 25 August 2015.Both are recommended for approval subject to the signing of Section 106 orders to secure affordable housing provision and contributions to education and highways.Under the Helston scheme, a total of 404 houses would be built with 25 per cent of these earmarked for affordable housing. This scheme is a resubmission of an application originally granted consent in October 2015. This originally proposed 480 homes but this number was restricted to 219 due to potential noise from the theme park during the summer months. The new application was deferred by councillors at a meeting in March 2016 to allow the applicant time to address noise concerns.Redrow’s application proposes 190 homes, 30 per cent of which would be affordable housing, and land for a new primary school on a site on the outskirts of Wadebridge. The facilitate the school, the developer would transfer 2.7 acres of land to the council. Public open space will also be provided, including a new sport pitch.
