A ten-storey residential scheme could soon be built on a site originally earmarked for a 126-bedroom hotel between the Old Trafford football and cricket stadiums.Applicant Ropetune, owned by London-based Tannen Group, has lodged a full planning application with Trafford Council to create a residential block at 86 Talbot Road next to the 15-storey Oakland House office scheme approximately five minutes’ walk from the homes of Manchester United FC and Lancashire County Cricket Club. The site is currently vacant with the six-storey office that previously occupied the site having been demolished and outline planning permission granted for a 126-bedroom hotel in July 2014.This consent established a precedent for a residential-type use of the site and also the height and massing for a new building. Ropetune is now proposing a similar-sized building to the proposed hotel. The new application envisages the creation of 27 one-bedroom, 54 two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom apartments. There would also be 90 parking spaces.Trafford Council has set a determination deadline of 17 October 2016 for the application.
