A mixed-use scheme could be developed on the Glan Afan Comprehensive School site in Port Talbot under newly-submitted proposals.Coastal Housing Group has lodged an application with Neath Port Talbot Council. If approved, the historic building fronting onto Station Road will be retained and the structure converted to accommodate four commercial units with a ground floor front extension and six residential flats.Other buildings at the rear of the school site would be demolished to enable the construction of flats, detached and semi-detached houses and a further commercial unit, alongside associated access, car parking and landscaping works. The redevelopment is one of 11 proposed projects planned for Port Talbot as part of a three-year regeneration programme with more than £30m set to be invested in and around the town centre. The council has secured funding from the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places programme for a number of town centre projects.Glan Afan closed its doors for the final time in July 2016 with pupils transferring to the brand new Bae Baglan for the new academic year in September.
