A remote-controlled mine plough will soon be tested by the British Army helping to keep soldiers safe and bring operational advantage. The high-tech, life-saving device was created by the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) working in partnership with industry partner Pearson Engineering Ltd.
The system is designed to keep soldiers out of harm’s way while clearing minefields faster and safer. The minefield breaching prototype, named WEEVIL, represents a significant advance in military capability. The system can be adapted to work with any suitable vehicle platform, including military vehicles that are being retired from service.
WEEVIL combines proven vehicle technology with an innovative mine-clearing system. Dstl’s science and technology is vital to keeping our Armed Forces safe and the UK secure. Its mission is to deliver operational advantage at pace, shape the defence and security landscape, prepare for the future, leverage and influence internationally. Dstl gives the UK a battle-winning edge across science, technology, cyber and information.
