Budget supermarket chain Lidl has vowed to create up to 400 jobs at its new distribution centre in Southampton as part of a £55m investment.The 420,000 sq ft facility – which is the size of ten football pitches – is the grocer’s tenth in the UK and largest to date. It will service stores in and around Hampshire, Dorset and West Sussex.Lidl, which opened its first British RDC in 1994, currently has warehouses in nine other locations up and down the country, including Northfleet, Enfield, Belvedere, Livingston, Weston-Super-Mare, Lutterworth, Newton Aycliffe, Runcorn and Bridgend.In November 2015, the supermarket vowed to invest £1.5bn over the next three years as it continues to expand its warehouses and 640-strong store portfolio.Lidl reported a record-high turnover of £4.7bn for the 2015 financial year.
