Revised plans to build a nine-storey student accommodation scheme in Newcastle city centre look set to be approved. The application was originally to build more than 400 apartments before revised proposals were submitted.Wordie Properties’ application is to demolish the Manor View House building at Kings Manor.In its place, the company hopes to build an eight-nine storey property.The outline proposals have held off revealing every aspect of the proposed scheme.However, a report a report to councillors said the indicative plans drawn up indicate that the development would comprise about 250 bed spaces.The property would be built in the form of a sideways T shape, with the top wing of accommodation fronting the A167 motorway and the central arm projecting east towards the centre of the Manors Business Park.The proposals are a revised version of the initial plans, which were for the erection of a 14-storey scheme.The 407-bed development, which was set to be rejected, was earmarked to sit on the same site.Despite the application being set for rejection, it was deferred pending revisions. New plans were submitted on 28 September 2016.Newcastle City Council has been recommended to approve the latest scheme at its meeting on 1 November.
