The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO) has this week announced the appointment of BAE Systems to install a Denmark-specific battle management radio system across a fleet of 44 CV9035 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV).
For the uninitiated, the CV90 is a series of tracked combat vehicles designed and built by BAE Systems Hägglunds – the Sweden-based arm of the Organisation. According to BAE Systems, the vehicle offers unparalleled tactical and strategic mobility across any terrain, with an astonishing 4.5 million engineering hours contributing to the development and system integration of the advanced IFV.
Peter Nygren, Director of Business Development at BAE Systems Hägglunds, was on-hand to explain: “CV90 is a well demonstrated solution, combat proven by the Danish Army in Afghanistan. As a member of NATO, Denmark needs to have the CV90s in top condition. Crew survivability and interoperability are of primary importance to all armed forces, and we are proud of the confidence the Danish Government has shown in us to upgrade these vehicles.”
Mr Nygren continues: “The CV90’s open electronic architecture allows for the integration of any country’s chosen system and regular updates of all key electronic systems. BAE Systems can tailor the fit of C4ISR systems for each customer and vehicle variant.”
Crucially, the newly-announced contract also requires widespread collaboration between BAE Systems and its industrial partners in Denmark. This cooperation brings with it additional benefit in the guise of job opportunities, technology transfer and investment, and paves the way for Denmark’s continued economic development and future growth.
Since 2009, BAE Systems has bolstered Denmark’s economy by close to €300M as part of a lasting commitment to engaging Danish contractors in the support of the country’s CV90 fleet.
The vehicle now operates worldwide, and as part of United Nations and NATO engagements. Nine variants are currently in service, with upwards of 1,280 vehicles manned by seven European countries, including four NATO members. The latest variant to go into production is for Norway.
