Fresh plans have been unveiled for a long-awaited scheme that will transform part of Digbeth into a major residential development.Known as Connaught Square, the plot on High Street in the city’s Irish Quarter will comprise 940 apartments, public plazas and about 65,000 sq ft of commercial space. The development is led by Seven Capital, which is behind the £80m St Georges Urban Village in the Jewellery Quarter and Fabrick Square, another residential scheme in Digbeth.Architecture practice K4 is also working on the plans. Previous proposals to develop the site were approved more than ten years ago and the permission was renewed in 2010, but the company behind the project collapsed due to the recession. The old plans included 660 affordable homes and serviced apartments as well as 247,569 sq ft of commercial space.
