A new Abergavenny development featuring a 61-bedroom hotel, restaurant and coffee drive-thru, which could together support the creation of 68 jobs, has moved closer with the sale of land for the scheme.Pontypool-based Johnsey Estates, landowner of the land off Merthyr Road, known as Westgate, sealed the deal to sell the land to Whitbread.The company plans to develop a 61-bedroom Premier Inn, Brewers Fayre Restaurant, and Costa Coffee Drive Thru on the Llanfoist site.The wider Westgate site comprises 12 acres of net developable land. The new scheme takes up a portion of the land and is adjacent to a soon to open McDonald’s drive thru.Work on the McDonald’s restaurant, which is set to create an additional 65 jobs, is said to be well advanced with completion expected before Christmas 2016.As part of the next phase of development at Westgate, a planning application for a care home was recently lodged with Monmouthshire County Council.
