Devon-based defence engineering firm Supacat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the major European land systems manufacturer KNDS Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG.

The agreement establishes a partnership to pursue opportunities under the UK Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Land Mobility Programme (LMP), with a clear focus on delivering UK-based manufacturing and support for a range of protected mobility vehicles. This collaboration presents a significant future opportunity for the UK defence supply chain, particularly in the South West of England.

The partnership will jointly offer solutions for the British Army’s future requirements in the light and medium protected mobility categories. The proposal is centred on KNDS’s combat-proven Dingo 3 platform and its Armoured Command and Liaison Vehicle (ACLV) variants. The collaboration will specifically target the MoD’s planned procurement of Troop Carrying Vehicles (TCV), Ambulance, and Command post variants, which are key components of the LMP’s objective to modernise and rationalise the Army’s vehicle fleet. Under the terms of the MOU, Supacat will lead on all UK-based activities, including manufacturing, design adaptation, and the development of integrated through-life support solutions from its newly established production facility in Devon.

This agreement is structured to deliver substantial sovereign industrial capability, directly aligning with the UK Government’s Defence Industrial Strategy. By localising production and support, the partnership aims to create and sustain high-value engineering jobs and foster a robust domestic supply chain. The collaboration leverages the distinct strengths of both companies: KNDS provides its extensive experience as a Tier 1 prime contractor, currently demonstrated in its delivery of the Boxer vehicle from its UK facility in Stockport, while Supacat contributes its renowned agility, specialist design expertise, and a deep understanding of UK defence requirements.

For the UK supply chain, the commitment to UK manufacturing opens a clear pathway for engagement on what could be a multi-million-pound programme involving many hundreds of vehicles. The partnership also creates a new avenue for export opportunities, potentially offering Supacat’s own highly successful High Mobility Transporter (HMT) platform to European Union nations through KNDS’s established global network. This strategic alliance provides the MoD with a credible, UK-centric industrial team capable of delivering modern, adaptable vehicle fleets while simultaneously reinforcing the nation’s defence industrial base.
