The government has awarded £4.5 million through its Veterans Capital Housing Fund to 19 organisations across the United Kingdom.

The funding, announced on 30 October 2025, is allocated for the construction of 45 new homes and the refurbishment of existing properties for veterans and their families. This investment is part of the broader £20 million Capital Housing investment programme designed to enhance the provision of safe and secure housing for former service personnel. The announcement was made by the Minister for Veterans and People, Louise Sandher-Jones MP, at The Stoll Foundation’s Valour House development in Fulham, a recipient of the new funding for shared facility improvements.

The financial allocation is divided into two streams. Major grants, totalling over £3.9 million, will be distributed among nine organisations in locations including Wales, the South-East of England, and London. A further ten organisations with ongoing projects will receive top-up grants amounting to more than £500,000. Beyond the construction of new dwellings, the funds will enable essential refurbishments such as the replacement of roofs, boilers, and windows, as well as improvements to accessibility. To date, the Veterans Capital Housing Fund has disbursed over £12.5 million in grants, supporting a range of housing projects for the veteran community.

This latest round of funding precedes the anticipated publication of the Defence Housing Strategy. A key component of the forthcoming strategy will be the introduction of a ‘first-dibs’ priority access scheme for veterans and service personnel to purchase new homes constructed on surplus Ministry of Defence land. This policy signals a significant opportunity for developers and construction firms engaged with the disposal and redevelopment of the defence estate. It aligns with previous policy changes, such as the removal of local connection requirements for veterans applying for social housing in England, aimed at reducing barriers to accommodation.

The government’s strategy is further supported by the extension of Op FORTITUDE, the national referral pathway for homeless veterans, which has received an additional £3.5 million in funding to continue its operations until March 2026. Since its inception, the programme has managed over 4,100 referrals and successfully assisted more than 1,000 veterans into housing. These coordinated efforts underscore a long-term policy commitment to addressing veteran welfare through direct funding, strategic housing initiatives, and partnerships with specialist providers across the UK.
