UK Export Finance (UKEF) has provided financial backing that has enabled Somerset-based SRT Marine Systems to secure two major overseas contracts worth around €350M. The agreements, with Indonesia and Kuwait, will see the delivery of the company’s advanced maritime surveillance technologies and mark a significant boost for the UK’s defence and security export sector.

Headquartered in Midsomer Norton, SRT Marine Systems has established itself as a leading provider of integrated maritime domain awareness solutions. The company’s AI-driven systems fuse terrestrial, mobile and satellite data into a single platform, providing coastguards and maritime agencies with a powerful capability to monitor and respond to a range of threats from piracy and smuggling to illegal fishing and environmental risks.

The largest element of the new business will deliver the Indonesian Coast Guard’s National Maritime Security System, a national-scale surveillance and command network integrating 50 command centres across the archipelago. Backed by a €157.9 million buyer credit financing package from UKEF, Banco Santander and the UK government’s direct lending facility, the 10-year programme will involve two years of build and integration followed by eight years of in-country support and maintenance. A further contract, supported through a UKEF General Export Facility guarantee, will see SRT provide a similar capability for Kuwait’s coastguard.

The company expects to create up to 50 new high-value roles in the UK across software development, AI, digital visualisation and electrical engineering. It has also confirmed that the scale of delivery will flow through to its supply chain, providing millions of pounds of contracts to specialist UK sub-contractors and technology partners.

Export Minister Gareth Thomas said the projects illustrated how government-backed finance is unlocking major new markets for British firms: “Deals like these showcase UK innovation abroad while creating skilled jobs and growth at home. They reflect the ambition of our trade and industrial strategies to expand the nation’s export footprint.”

Kevin Finn, Chairman of SRT Marine Systems, noted that demand for national-scale maritime surveillance systems is accelerating as governments seek to replicate the integrated air traffic control model at sea. “Delivering these programmes requires sustained partnership and long-term capability development, and UKEF’s support has been fundamental in enabling us to secure these strategic contracts,” he said.

UKEF’s latest figures show it provided a record £14.5 billion of new financing in 2024/25, supporting over 667 UK companies and up to 70,000 jobs.
