The UK Government has launched VALOUR, a new £50M nationwide veterans’ support system designed to streamline access to care, housing, employment, and health services for ex-service personnel. The initiative presents significant opportunities for the defence supply chain, especially those providing welfare, infrastructure, digital and data-driven services.

Announced during VE Day week, VALOUR marks a major step forward in implementing the Armed Forces Covenant and modernising veteran care. The system will establish a network of VALOUR-recognised support centres across the UK, each tailored to regional needs and supported by a fleet of Regional Field Officers. These officers will coordinate local and national service providers, including veteran charities, NHS bodies, housing associations, and employment organisations.

For suppliers, this creates new commercial and partnership opportunities across several areas:

  • Facilities and infrastructure providers to establish and maintain support centres

  • Technology and data firms to build platforms for integrated, evidence-based care

  • Workforce and training providers to help transition veterans into civilian employment

  • Health and housing services equipped to support complex veteran needs

Notably, VALOUR is designed to be data-driven, indicating an emphasis on digital platforms, analytics, and interoperability, opening further prospects for IT, consultancy, and cybersecurity vendors already active in defence and public sector frameworks.

This initiative aligns with broader government commitments to renew its “contract with those who serve” under the Plan for Change, and positions the defence community not only as a strategic pillar of national security, but as a central player in delivering long-term social impact.

Suppliers and delivery partners are invited to contribute to the co-design process, with research, focus groups, and engagement already underway. The first VALOUR support centres will be operational in 2025.

Key figures:

  • £50 million government investment

  • UK-wide roll-out

  • Data-driven framework to guide service delivery

  • Focused on scalable support for all parts of the Armed Forces community
